Good news for manta rays

Good news for manta rays

This morning came the news that manta rays have now been placed on the CITES Appendix II listing.  Oceanic whitetip, porbeagle and 3 kinds of hammerhead sharks were also added to the list.  This is great news but lets see how well certain countries deal with the regulations imposed.

I’ve dived with hammerheads & mantas and they’ve been some of the best wildlife encounters I’ve had.  Polar opposites as animals though, hammerheads were shy and wary of divers and consequently very difficult to get close to, mantas on the other hand couldn’t give a toss whether you were there or not.
